Cool Social GPS App: Waze

Cool Social GPS App: Waze
iPhones have long been used as GPS devices. All the way from Apple Maps' release to Google Maps today, drivers have been relying more and more on iPhones to act in place of actual GPS devices.

Up until Waze, most GPS apps downloaded on iTunes were just like traditional GPS devices. They were not very interactive and just focused on giving directions by using a predetermined algorithm.

Waze, available on iTunes, changes all of that. Its entire purpose is to act as a "social" GPS, but it's a lot different from using traditional social media. There are a variety of road hazards and warnings users can put in. When a significant amount of people indicate the same warning at the same spot, it's officially published on the Waze app. The app takes input as you drive, giving you the most up to date warnings issued.

Users can report accidents, dangerous areas, unusual traffic slowdowns, and even police cars enforcing speed, as well as traffic enforcement camera locations. Waze is still a bit clunky at times, but it uses the full capacity of your iPhone to be the most efficient GPS possible. It can even reset routes based on conditions reported by other Waze users.

If you're on the road a lot with your iPhone, put it to work! Especially on highly traveled roads like interstates, Waze can help you "outsmart traffic," as its website says, and have more time to do what matters to you. Download Waze today on the iTunes App Store to get started.
